Out west, the Closed Syllable Exceptions are running wild! When W goes on an adventure to restore some order, the letters learn that closed syllable exceptions have an important role to play in creating words.
This phonics tale is a great teaching aid for elementary students and literacy lovers, alike!
This is best used with students who've learned closed syllable types and are being introduced to closed syllable exceptions (also known as VCCV Exceptions or "Wild, Old Colt Words." This can be used before, during, or after your literacy lessons, or as a read-aloud before explaining the concept of closed syllable exceptions.
Please note this book includes -ild, -ind, -old, -olt, -ost.

Our Mission
Our goal at Phonics Read-Alouds is to support students and teachers to engage with phonics strategies through modeling fluent oral language, listening comprehension, reinforcing decoding skills and lovable characters.
The book does a good explaination of these syllable. I have a question, wasn't the reason they are long because they used to have a slilent e at th end? It was dropped through the years.
